Midland Area Supporting BMFA Outreach

Members from Midland Area clubs regularly help the BMFA Outreach team with participation in STEM activities and our latest turnout was a visit to Willoughby School in Bourne where two of our committee members, Steve and John, along with Bournestormers club member Kurt, had a most enjoyable day working with the kids.

All had a go on the flight simulators and built stomp rockets and foam Aerojet chuck gliders.

Aerojet

The latest version of the stomp rocket build was particularly impressive, using a template and a build jig provides consistency and they were easily hitting the far wall of the school hall. The next step in the development programme is to come up with a launch device for the aerojets to get a consistent launch so removing the variable of the way the planes are launched and thus getting better flight trimming results.

The head teacher of the school said the students were buzzing at the end of the day and that they’ll be using the session as a building block for their career lessons.

There are more STEM events upcoming as part of a long term programme with the BMFA working together with the Midlands STEM team.
